Style. Design. Coordinate.

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? And there’s been a few changes around here, I should catch you up…

For a few months now (roughly since the second week of January) I’ve been developing Serpentine Shores. Co – my new shop front as an event’s planner and stylist, with a particular focus on all things simple, natural and sustainable.

So (in the words of my Mother) just what exactly is it I’m doing? At its core, it’s events planning – whether that event is a photoshoot, workshop, wedding, feast night, corporate-do, intimate family gathering, engagement shoot or expertly-arranged-proposal. In Cornwall – due to the nature of industry down here – I anticipate the main part of my work will be weddings. And whilst the services I provide overlap with those of a wedding planner, I would say my work places a greater emphasis on style, design, aesthetic and atmosphere. A friend recently phrased it in a way that touched me; saying “it’s a visual kind of poetry”.

In future I hope to blog more about this – the stylist blueprints I create, behind the scenes on projects and hopefully some finalised images from events. Maybe also some tips and tricks I’m learning in this trade. Perhaps the odd DIY, Q&A or thought piece… Which leads nicely onto this space!

It’s safe to say in the three years since I started blogging, it’s changed a lot. What was once a little-known-about-hobby, has turned into a commercial industry. Girls sat on beds behind laptops, now seem to be girl bosses running online empires. And whilst there’s much to be applauded in all this, it can also feel somewhat alienating. Trying to find my feet in constantly changing waters. It’s often something I feel ill at ease with; not often proud of my participation (or my lack of). But in my time away I’ve had much to reflect upon; my intentions and aims and ideas on navigating the ever increasingly commercial nature of online content creation. And so in this first (shamelessly late) post of 2017, I thought I’d make a few statements or resolutions – nail my colours to the mast and all that!

Firstly – with every good intention – I want to post more regularly on here. Ideally twice a week, but I think we’ll have to start with once, to begin with! I quite like the idea of Shores Sundays… Also I’d like to get around to starting YouTube – an idea I’ve been playing with for far too long now – watching others videos, coming up with ideas of my own, but always hesitating to bite the bullet. Letting my lack of knowledge about editing (and the stigma around what “kind” of people do youtube) put me off. I think it’s high time I got over that and just did my research! Finally, I want to make more of an effort to create the kind of content I want to consume. Too often I think it’s easy to follow the path already carved out or to become discouraged and despondent by the fact the one you seek doesn’t exist. (Doesn’t exist yet that is) This is a biggie for me. And like I said, it’s certainly something I’m still reflecting on and figuring out. But hopefully, you’ll stay with me through these changes – giving me feedback and letting me know when I get it (almost) right along the way.

Alright, I think that’s everything! Thanks for putting up with my spam/shop rambles and mildly meta-reflections. Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend x
